SODOM Unveils New Single/Lyric Video “1982”
German thrash metal legends Sodom released a new single and video for the song “1982” today. The song is taken from the bonus CD of the box set version of the 40th anniversary album, 40 Years At War-The Greatest Hell Of Sodom. It is also available on all digital platforms here.
“1982” is a brand new song, in which frontman Tom Angelripper reminisces about his early days: “At first we just wanted to be a band, the music was almost an afterthought. We were against everything and everyone, we wanted to shock the world and the more people hated us, the more motivated we were. No one expected that 40 years later we would still be alive and playing. Those 40 years have passed in a flash, but we continue to look to the future.
40 years of Sodom, 40 years of ruthless thrash metal “Made in Germany”. What was born in 1982 in Gelsenkirchen-Buer has lost none of its authenticity and rawness, not even four decades later. Tom Angelripper and his men are always at the head of a music that draws its energy from pure determination, intransigence and relentlessness.
Moreover, Sodom never fails to amaze its fans around the world. 40 Years At War – The Greatest Hell Of Sodom, is a more than worthy anniversary album which – in various formats – sums up the band’s history in an unusual and very ambitious way. “Our goal was to re-record a song from each of our previous albums,” Tom explains. “Not necessarily the most obvious, we wanted to go for rarities or tracks that we had never or very rarely played live.”
The CD and double LP vinyl with their martial cover written by Eliran Kantor (Kreator, Testament, GWAR, among others) includes 17 tracks, all newly recorded by the current Sodom line-up with Frank Blackfire (guitars), Yorck Segatz (guitars) and Toni Merkel (drums). Tom: “We cover the songs without modifying them, that is to say: exactly in the same key and with the original lyrics. We’re better musicians now than we were then, of course, so the new releases sound tighter and more up-to-date, but the song arrangements have deliberately been left unchanged.
The band’s 40th anniversary festivities will continue with their concerts next fall. “We will not only play Sodom classics, but we will also take into account fan requests. We are launching a poll of songs we have rarely or never played live on tour to find out which songs fans want to hear. .
That’s exactly what Sodom is: being close to your fans, full of ideas, burning with action while keeping your eyes on the goal at hand. Tom: “If you want to summarize the last four decades, it can only be this: 40 years later, and we’re still here!
